CHAPTER 42

Lumina of Light

The elemental did not recognize the race Aetheria had shapeshifted into, which was to be expected: according to the book of unique races across the universe that Odin had given her, the Luxentian race lived in a dimension called the Far Realm. Which meant they were not a frequently seen species, but their unique abilities to absorb and process light into durability and strength made them one of her absolute favorite races to mimic. Someday, she would figure out how to alter the form to draw strength from Ethereal power, and then she’d be untouchable!

Lumina did not maintain its humanoid shape very well. It flowed like liquid, constantly changing. The elemental attacked first, its form flowing and moving with such speed that Aetheria had to focus to even be able to follow the movements with her eyes. A massive volley of light fragmented the rock floor around her, while her skin sucked the light in like a black hole. Under the cover of the artillery volley Lumina moved in to slam a massive appendage down on Aetheria. Due to the amorphous nature of Lumina she wasn’t sure whether it was an arm or leg, but she lifted a tiny human hand to catch the blow.

“!!@#!!” Lumina chimed some strange melodic sounds in a tone that Aetheria interpreted as a swear word. Aetheria had blocked the massive blow and stood unharmed and bolstered by the bombardment. She reached through the Flame of Aetherius imbued into Astrum Nexus, amplified it with her own Primordial Flame of Aetherius and released a burst of energy in the form of her infrequently used Aetherflame Nova. The aqua-colored flames stuck to the malleable form of Lumina and burned like napalm; they showed no immediate signs of extinguishing.

Huh. It isn’t responding in pain.

In fact, Lumina didn’t seem to react to being immolated at all. While Aetheria watched, the Aetherflames dwindled across Lumina’s body, and then extinguished.

“Hey, what the what? You can’t just ignore fire.” Aetheria huffed and stomped her foot so hard rocks flew in all directions, while she channeled Ethereal power into the shockwave with the Transcendent Flame of Khaos. Confident of its ability to defend against an opponent a whole tier lower than it, Lumina took the shockwave straight on. The elemental promptly collapsed, no longer able to maintain a humanoid form as Khaos’s power caused its amorphous nature to take over completely.

“That’s what you get.” Aetheria smirked as her attack temporary disabled the blob. She closed the distance in a burst of speed and took a play out of Arkaziel’s book. The multihued colors of the rainbow took over her aura as she fully activated the Flames of Khaos and Nyx. Khaos provided the strength to break through the defenses of the higher tier enemy, while the Flame of Nyx consumed the very life essence of the elemental.

Aetheria almost fell on her well-toned butt in shock at the amount of energy the elemental represented. Lumina did not just represent Aetherial light, but anima, or life itself.
